Used construction equipment should not be assessed only by appearance or operating hours. Start by defining the job, ground conditions and attachment for which the machine will be used. Review the make, model, production year, serial number, operating hours and available service records together. Cold engine start, exhaust colour, unusual noises, hydraulic speed, leaks, pin and bushing play, and the condition of the undercarriage or tyres are important inspection points.

Dashboard indicators, warning lights, air conditioning, safety equipment and controls should also be tested. Where possible, operate the machine under load and confirm the coupling dimensions of existing attachments. Before purchase, clarify the technical condition, delivery scope, included equipment and sales terms in writing. An independent or specialist technical inspection helps ensure the decision is based on observable findings.
